5/25/2023 0 Comments Sax mouthpiece facing chart![]() Facing lengths are most commonly measured in half millimeters, so a standard tenor facing length of ‘50’ would be 25mm. If you were to measure from the tip of the mouthpiece to the break, this would be the facing length. In essence, the break represents the fulcrum on which the reed seals against the mouthpiece. It begins at the end of the flat plane of the table of the mouthpiece, where the rails start to curve away from the reed. The facing, or facing curve, is the curved part of the mouthpiece that the reed seals against, especially when articulating. ![]() With tip openings, rails, chambers and floors, who would have thought a piece of machined rubber or metal could be so confusing?!
